Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is lashing out at the Republican party over gay marriage, saying he’s “utterly exasperated,” while also saying he’ll leave the GOP and “start finding people that have guts to stand.”
In a radio interview earlier this week on American Family Association’s “Today’s Issues,” Huckabee ripped the GOP for complacency on the issue.
“I am utterly exasperated with Republicans and the so-called leadership of the Republicans who have abdicated on this issue when, if they continue this direction they guarantee they’re gonna lose every election in the future,” Huckabee said. “Guarantee it.”
He stressed surrendering on gay marriage is not an option.
“And I don’t understand why they wanna lose,” Huckabee said. ” ‘Cause a lot of Republicans, particularly in the establishment and those who live on the either left coast or those who live in the bubbles of New York or Washington, are convinced that if we don’t capitulate on the same sex marriage issue, if we don’t raise the white flag of surrender and just accept the inevitable, then we’re gonna be losers…
“It is the absolute opposite of that, and if the Republicans wanna lose guys like me, and a whole bunch of still God-fearing Bible-believing people, go ahead and just abdicate on this issue, and go ahead and say abortion doesn’t matter, either, because at that point, you lose me, I’m gone, I’ll become an independent, I’ll start finding people that have guts to stand, I’m tired of this.”
