While paying tribute to Aretha Franklin Thursday night at a “Women of Soul” event at the White House, President Obama came so close to nailing the chorus of her signature song.

“When Aretha first told us what R-S-,” the president paused as he realized he would like to buy a vowel, “P-E-C-T meant to her, she had no idea it would become a rallying cry for African Americand, and women, and then everyone who felt marginalized because of what they looked like or who they loved. They wanted some respect.”

A minor fracas popped up on the internet Friday as people realized that the official White House transcripts left out the minor flub.
