White Sox pitchers routed again by Tigers

DETROIT — Another day, another double-digit shellacking of the White Sox’ pitching staff.

On Friday, left-hander Derek Holland had far and away his worst start of the season (eight runs in 2‰ innings) in a 15-5 loss to the Tigers. On Saturday, Miguel Gonzalez gave up six runs and 10 hits in six innings in a 10-1 defeat.

Talk about a rough start to a road trip. The only moral -victory for Gonzalez was plowing through six innings to help save the bullpen.

“We needed it,’’ Gonzalez said. “It was huge.’’

A victory would have been bigger and would have prevented the Sox from falling a season-low six games under .500. They’ve lost four in a row, allowing 13, four, 15 and 10 runs during the streak.

“I know Holland has been pitching really well,’’ Gonzalez said. “Yesterday wasn’t his day. He came up to me and said, ‘Hey, go out there and pick me up.’ Didn’t work out. Didn’t go our way.

“Really tough to swallow, -honestly. I felt good. Just really three pitches that got away.’’

Those three resulted in back-to-back home runs for Nicholas Castellanos and Alex Presley in the second inning and former Sox Alex Avila’s eighth homer in the fourth.

Gonzalez beat the Tigers at home in his last start, opening with six perfect innings.

“Today was a day when I thought Gonzo would be able to change the tide a little bit, shut them down,’’ manager Rick -Renteria said.

“He gave us six innings, which was appreciated.’’

Ynoa to DL; Goldberg debuts

Right-hander Michael Ynoa was put on the 10-day disabled list with a right hip flexor strain. Right-hander Brad Goldberg, a 10th-round draft pick for the Sox in 2013 who was called up from Class AAA Charlotte, was routed for four runs in one-third of an inning. Justin Upton hit the Tigers’ fourth homer against him to start a four-run eighth.

Goldberg, 27, was 2-1 with a 1.99 ERA in 22„ innings with four saves and 22 strikeouts and had pitched 10„ consecutive scoreless innings at Charlotte.

Ynoa, 25, pitched to two batters in the Sox’ loss to the Tigers on Friday and left the game with the injury. He is 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA. Ynoa joins Sox pitchers Carlos Rodon, James Shields, Jake Petricka, Nate Jones, Zach Putnam and Dylan Covey on the disabled list.

This and that

Shields, who made four starts before going on the DL with a strained lat, had an encouraging first minor-league rehab outing for Charlotte, allowing one earned run in four innings against Buffalo, striking out three and walking none.

• Prized Cuban outfield prospect Luis Robert, signed to a

$26 million contract two weeks ago, reported to the Sox’ academy in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, and saw his first action in a Sox uniform.

• Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was ejected by first-base umpire Fieldin Culbreath while arguing after the umpires ruled he took too long to challenge a call at first base.

“The clock is at 30 seconds, but as a rule, they give you more time,” bench coach Gene Lamont said. “This time, I guess they stopped it right at 30.’’

• Yolmer Sanchez fouled a pitch off his left ankle and received treatment after the game. He stayed in the game and is expected to be OK, Renteria said.
