As expected, the White Sox placed third baseman Yoan Moncada on the 10-day injured list with a strained right hamstring. The move is retroactive to July 31. The team recalled outfielder Ryan Cordell from Class AAA Charlotte to fill Moncada’s roster spot. Moncada left the Sox’s 5-2 loss to the Mets on Tuesday. He has been a huge piece for us, manager Rick Renteria said Tuesday. Having him go down is kind of a kick in the gut. Moncada, 24, was batting .301/.358/.535 with a career-high 20 home runs and 59 RBI. Cordell is batting .234 with six doubles, five home runs, 18 RBI and 15 runs scored over 69 games with the White Sox this season. He is hitting .323 (10-31) with three doubles, one triple, six homers and six RBI in seven games with Charlotte.
