Black Ensemble Theater has announced veteran Chicago actor Kevin Pollack will star as Roger Ebert in the upcoming world premiere musical “The Black/White Love Play (The Story of Chaz and Roger Ebert).”

Directed by Jackie Taylor, who is writing in collaboration with Chaz Ebert, the play will be performed at the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center, 4450 N. Clark, Sept. 26-Nov. 1. The play tells the story of Chaz and Roger’s life together, from courtship till the film critic’s death in 2013.

On his Facebook page, Pollack shared the news:

I am beyond honored and thrilled to officially announce that I will be starring as the iconic ROGER EBERT in Black Ensemble Theater’s World Premiere production The Black/White Love Play: The Story of Chaz Ebert and Roger Ebert directed by the amazing Ms. Jackie Taylor this October!!! Excited to be joining some of my Men of Soul castmates as well!! Stay tuned for details!!!

Pollack is currently starring as Joe Cocker in BET’s production of “Men of Soul.” The role marks his BET debut. His other credits include “Rent,” “Forever Plaid” and “The Wedding Singer.” Pollack’s Facebook page also lists him as lead vocalist/pianist/songwriter for Kevin and the Collective.

The role of Chaz Ebert has not yet been cast.
