A 5-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman were shot Friday evening in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

They were on a sidewalk about 8 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Artesian when someone walked out of an alley and opened fire, striking the girl in the foot and the woman in the left ankle, according to the police.

The woman drove them to St. Bernard Hospital, where the woman was treated, and the girl was transferred to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, police said.
