Lane and ramp closures on I-290 and Illinois Route 390 are scheduled to begin Monday to replace bridge beams in the northwest suburbs.

Overnight lane and ramp closures on I-290 and Illinois Route 390 will begin Monday and continue until June 21, according to a statement from the Illinois Tollway.

One eastbound I-290 lane between Biesterfield Road and Illinois Irving Park Road will close at 7 p.m. Monday, a second lane will close at 9 p.m. and a third at 11 p.m., the tollway said. The ramp carrying traffic from Biesterfield Road to I-290 will also close at midnight.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, with traffic shifting to the right to accommodate construction, the Tollway said.

Similar lane and ramp closures on I-290 between Biesterfield Road and Illinois Irving Park Road are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, the Tollway said. All lanes will again reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday, with traffic shifting to the right to accommodate construction.

Four nights of full lane closures on eastbound I-290, Illinois Route 390 and four connected ramps are then scheduled from Wednesday until Saturday, the Tollway said.

One lane in both directions of I-290 between Biesterfield Road and Thorndale Avenue will close at 8 p.m. Saturday, followed by two lanes in both directions at 10 p.m. and three lanes at 11:30 p.m., the Tollway said. All eastbound I-290 lanes will close at midnight.

One eastbound on Illinois Route 390 between Plum Grove Road and Rohlwing Road will also close at 8 p.m. Saturday, with one westbound lane between Prospect Avenue and Rohlwing Road closing at 9 p.m., the tollway said. All lanes in both directions between Meacham Road and I-290 will also close at midnight.

All lanes and ramps will reopen by 8 a.m. June 12, the tollway said.

Additional ramp closures scheduled to begin at midnight Sunday include:

  • Eastbound I-290 to eastbound Illinois Route 390;
  • Eastbound Illinois Route 390 to eastbound I-290;
  • Eastbound Illinois Route 390 to westbound I-290;
  • Westbound Illinois Route 390 to eastbound I-290;
  • Westbound Illinois Route 390 to Rohlwing Road;
  • and Biesterfield Road to eastbound I-290.

Similar closures are scheduled over several nights between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., with full closure of eastbound I-290 between midnight and 5 a.m. on June 12, June 13, and June 14, the tollway said.

An additional three nights of closures are scheduled for westbound I-290 and Illinois Route 390 in both directions beginning June 18, the tollway said. Westbound I-290 will also be closed at Illinois Route 390 between midnight June 18 and 8 a.m. June 19.

Additional ramp closures scheduled to begin at midnight June 18 include:

  • Westbound Illinois Route 390 to westbound I-290;
  • Eastbound I-290 to eastbound Illinois Route 390;
  • Eastbound Illinois Route 390 to westbound I-290;
  • Westbound Illinois Route 390 to eastbound I-290;
  • Westbound Illinois Route 390 to Rohlwing Road.

All lanes and ramps will reopen by 8 a.m. June 19, the tollway said. Similar overnight closures are scheduled for June 19, June 20 and June 21.

The construction is part of a new flyover ramp, which is scheduled to be completed in 2017, the tollway said.
