A 34-year-old man was shot to death Monday night in south suburban Harvey.

Police responded to a call of shots fired about 7:30 p.m. in the 14800 block of Lincoln Avenue in Harvey, according to Sean Howard, spokesman for the city of Harvey.

An officer arrived at the scene and found 34-year-old Darnell Coleman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Howard and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The victim got into a confrontation with a black male who shot him multiple times, Howard said.

Coleman, a Markham resident, was pronounced dead at 8:02 p.m. at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Tuesday ruled his death a homicide.

Howard said the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the general area.

“We have great, outstanding leads,” Howard said. “We know who we’re looking for.”
