A 33-year-old man was killed and a 35-year-old woman was injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday morning in southwest suburban Joliet.
The crash between two motorcycles happened at Laraway and Manhattan roads in Joliet about 3:10 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the Will County sheriff’s office.
Deputies found a 35-year-old woman laying in a ditch conscious and breathing, according to the statement. She told the deputies she was riding as a passenger on one of the bikes and headed to Manhattan. She was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for non-life-threatening injuries.
The deputies later found 33-year-old Jon S. Mitchell, who was believed to be driving one of the motorcycles, according to the statement.
Mitchell, of Monee, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:30 a.m., according to the Will County coroner’s office. An autopsy Saturday determined he died of multiple injuries he suffered in the crash.
Authorities searched the area through heavy brush and used infrared cameras, but did not find any other victims, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators think the second motorcyclist called 911 after the crash and left the scene before deputies arrived, according to the statement.
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate.
