A 57-year-old man was killed when a box truck slammed into his motorcycle Friday morning near north suburban Libertyville.

About 11:15 a.m., the motorcyclist was going north on Milwaukee Avenue when he tried to make a left turn onto Casey Road and was hit by the truck, which was southbound on Milwaukee in unincorporated Libertyville, according to Lake County sheriff’s office spokesman Det. Chris Covelli.

The motorcyclist, identified as Paul M. Zwiener, was not wearing a helmet and thrown from the bike onto the road, Covelli said. Zwiener, of the 17000 block of Blackhawk Drive in Wildwood, was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he later died.

The man driving the box truck was not hurt.

The sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigation Team is looking into what color the traffic lights were at the time of the crash, Covelli said. No charges had been filed as of Monday morning as the investigation continued.
