The Bears continue to pursue former Saints and Patriots defensive lineman Akiem Hicks, sources said Wednesday, but they aren’t likely to get an answer in the coming hours. Hicks doesn’t figure to sign with anyone Wednesday.

Hicks started three games for the Saints last year after spending his first three seasons in New Orleans under current Bears GM Ryan Pace. The Saints traded him Oct. 1 to the Patriots for Michael Hoomanawanui. Hicks played 13 games for New England.

He had three sacks between the two teams, but at only 26 years old, is an intriguing fit for the Bears’ 3-4 defense. At 6-5, 318 pounds, he’s the ideal size for a 3-4 defensive end.

Pace was part of the Saints front office that drafted him No. 89 overall in 2012. He vowed not to overspend in free agency, and an under-the-radar acquisition like Hicks would fit the bill.
