(PHOENIX) A Far South Side man died Monday after the vehicle he was driving hit a tree in south suburban Phoenix.

Two men from Chicago were in the vehicle when it hit a tree at 152nd and Halsted in Phoenix early Monday, police said.

The driver had a blood alcohol level of .297 and was taken to a hospital where he later died, police said.

Michael Sanchez, 26, of the 13400 block of South Baltimore, died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 5:17 a.m. on Monday, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Details on the passenger were not being released as Phoenix police continue to investigate.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
