The first U.S. tour by Britain’s iconic Culture Club in more than 14 years has been canceled. The band also called off dates for the tour that was planned to follow in the U.K.

In a statement released Thursday, the band announced a polyp has been discovered in lead singer Boy George’s throat. The statement explained, “The throat specialist has ordered George not to sing as it may necessitate an operation. George and the band are devastated by this news and so it is with much regret that the tour is canceled until further notice.”

The statement went on to express the wish that the tour can be rescheduled for next year, when Boy George’s medical issue hopefully will be resolved.

There were no Chicago area dates on the tour.
