NEW YORK — While discussing the upcoming “Penguins of Madagascar” animated film with fellow voice talent Benedict Cumberbatch, John Malkovich talked a bit about his now-famous restagings of iconic photos — a pet project collaboration with photographer Sandro Miller.
The Oscar nominee and Steppenwolf ensemble member mentioned that as soon as he’s finished with promoting “Penguins,” he’s heading back into Miller’s studio to do more. “A lot of the new ones I don’t really know. I think there was going to be Whoopi Goldberg in the bathtub of milk, but I don’t know if we’re still doing that one. There’s something Meryl Streep and there’s eight or 10 others, which I can’t even think of at the moment,” said Malkovich.
The Goldberg reference made Cumberbatch laugh. “I don’t think I can ever think about you quite the same way, after hearing about you as Whoopi Goldberg in the tub,” said the British star with a wink.
The “Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich: Homage to Photographic Masters” exhibit continues through Jan. 31 at Catherine Edelman Gallery, 300 W. Superior.
