Sears plans to get an earlier start on holiday sales this year.

The Hoffman Estates retailer will open its stores at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving day, two hours earlier than last year. The stores will stay open until their regular closing times Friday.

Kmart stores will again open at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving day and remain open 42 hours through midnight Friday.

“This holiday season is all about giving more to our members and because many like to start shopping well before Black Friday, we’re excited to open our doors early on Thanksgiving and offer other early access opportunities for them to shop and save,” Leena Munjal, a Sears Holdings senior vice president, said in a news release.

Sears also announced a Sears Family & Friends event Sunday, Nov. 9, for a selection of Black Friday deals including clothes, appliances, tools and footwear. The discounts also will be available online at sears.com between 6 p.m. Saturday through 9 a.m. Nov. 11.
