(MOUNT PROSPECT) A man was injured in a drive-by shooting Wednesday night in northwest suburban Mount Prospect.

Police were called to Algonquin Road and Dempster Street at 8:19 p.m. for reports of a shooting, according to a statement from the Mount Prospect Police Department.

A witness told police that a white vehicle was travelling northwest on Algonquin, west of Dempster, when its occupants yelled something out the window and the front seat passenger fired three shots toward a group of men standing near a Dumpster, police said. The vehicle then drove away northwest on Algonquin.

A 21-year-old Arlington Heights man was shot in the arm and taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, police said. His injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Another man, 38, was not injured but had what appeared to be a bullet hole in his clothing, police said.

The vehicle the shooters were in may have been a Honda or Hyundai, according to police. The vehicle’s occupants were described as Hispanic males wearing hoodies, and the shooting might have been gang-related.

Anybody with information on the shooting is asked to contact police at (847) 870-5654.
