US stocks open higher, crude oil stabilizes

SHARE US stocks open higher, crude oil stabilizes

NEW YORK — U.S. stocks are opening higher as the market comes off its worst loss in two months.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 112 points, or 0.7 percent, to 17,392 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time Monday.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 15 points, or 0.8 percent, to 2,017. The Nasdaq composite rose 32 points, or 0.7 percent, to 4,685.

The Dow had plunged 315 points on Friday following another sharp drop in the price of oil and more signs of weakness in China.

The price of crude oil edged up 13 cents to $57.95 a barrel.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.13 percent.
