Teenager, man dead after West Lawn murder-suicide

A man was stabbed to death and a teenage boy shot himself in an apparent murder-suicide in a Southwest Side home Wednesday, autopsies found.

The bodies were discovered about 4:15 p.m. in a home in the 4100 block of West 63rd Street, police said.

An autopsy Thursday found Matthew Stanton, 28, died of a stab wound to the chest and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Peter Robert Costello, 17, died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a suicide, the medical examiner’s office said. They both lived in the block where they were found.

Both were found in the same bedroom, and a gun and a knife were recovered nearby, according to a police source.

A police source called the deaths a murder-suicide.
