Fear the brow: Anthony Davis lands on cover of SI

Chicago native Anthony Davis and his unibrow landed on the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated.

The story highlights Davis’ rise from overlooked junior to NBA star for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Here’s more from SI:

Most people would take notice of a 6-foot-10 inch, 245-pound person immediately, but for New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis, it’s his unique unibrow that has been the most recognizable feature on him for the past few years. That is quickly changing as Davis’ game attracts more and more attention these days.

The 21-year-old South Side of Chicago product, who graces the national cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated, has told the story of growing eight inches in height between his sophomore and senior years in high school, but he received only one scholarship offer after his junior season.

He says the plan was go to Cleveland State and “then go to the D-League or overseas.” He ended up at Kentucky, where under coach John Calipari he led the Wildcats to the 2012 National Championship in his only season in the school.

In his third NBA season, Davis is averaging 24.9 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.1 steals (all career-highs) a game, becoming one of the elite post players in the game. His 33.3 Player Efficiency Rating leads the NBA by almost five points. The NBA record is 31.82 set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962-63.
