1. The place to be. This weekend, Waubonsie Valley welcomes 13 other schools, including sister programs Neuqua Valley and Metea Valley, to the Red Ribbon Invitational on Saturday morning. Waubonsie Valley won four events behind senior leaders James Travis (triple and long jump) and fellow returning state qualifier Jon Harris (discus) last week at WW South.

2. On a mission. Harris has increased his personal best in the discus by more than 24 feet this season. “He has PR’d in every meet,” Waubonsie Valley weight coach Roger Einbecker said. Harris has the third-longest throw in Class 3A this season after his 180-3 effort at WW South last Friday.

3. Monster throw. Benet was elevated to 3A this season, but it may matter little to Stephen Hubona. Tuesday in the Redwings’ triangular with Carmel and St. Patrick, the senior weight man authored the new No. 1 mark in the state with his career-best throw of 186 feet, 10 inches. It is exactly 11 feet further than his previous best. The throw ranks Hubona among the 12 best in the nation.
