Joy Williams and John Paul White — the singer-songwriters known as The Civil Wars — have been on a self-imposed hiatus for more than a year.
Now, the country music duo have called it quits for good.
The musicians had canceled tour dates back in 2012, citing “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition,” which obviously they were unable to overcome.
Back then, they were in the middle of recording a new album — which soared to the top of the country charts when released in August, 2013.
However Williams and White did not tour to support it.
In a statement released Tuesday, Williams expressed her sadness over the breakup. “I am saddened and disappointed by the ending of this duo, to say the least. JP is a tremendous musician, and I will always be grateful for the music we were able to create together.”
During their four years together, the were nominated for multiple CMT Music Awards and won four Grammys.
