James Van Der Beek has been cast in “CSI: Cyber,” the latest spinoff from the mega-popular “Crime Scene Investigation” TV franchise. The new “CSI” is inspired by the real-life cyber psychologist Mary Aiken. In the series the already-announced Patricia Arquette will play Audry Ryan, who heads the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division. That group’s mission is to solve illegal activities that begin in the mind, evolve online and then take place in the real world.

Van Der Beek’s Elijah Mundo character will be a FBI agent who honed his battlefield forensics skills during a lengthy tour of duty in Afghanistan.
