Report: John Fox out in Denver; could he be Bears’ next coach?

FOX Sports’ NFL Insider Jay Glazer is reporting that coach John Fox and the Denver Broncos decided to part ways Monday.

Fox’s Broncos lost to the Colts on Sunday in the second round of the NFL playoffs. His job security was in question before the game was even played.

It’s unclear at this point whether Fox would have interest in the Chicago Bears’ job, but the Bears might have interest in Fox. In fact, the Bears probably should.

Among the available options, Fox, 59, is surely among the best. He’s been to two Super Bowls, one with the Broncos and one with the Panthers, owns a 119-89 career record and possesses a defensive background. He was a defensive coordinator for the New York Giants before becoming a head coach.

Several of Fox’s assistants have gone onto head coaching roles, including Jack Del Rio, Dennis Allen and Mike McCoy. Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase seems to be on a similar track.

Fox had a .719 winning percentage in four seasons at Denver, the best winning percentage of any coach in the franchise’s history, per ESPN.

There’s also at least one legitimate reason to believe the Bears will pursue Fox. According to Greg Gabriel, formerly the Bears’ director of college scouting, Fox has ties to consultant Ernie Accorsi.
