You’d think winning a Golden Globe would make Gina Rodriguez a familiar face around the Globe offices. But the Chicago native and “Jane the Virgin” star found out otherwise this morning.
The official Golden Globes Twitter account sent out a photo and identified it as Rodriguez announcing the Globe nominees. But it wasn’t her. It was fellow Latina actress America Ferrera of “Ugly Betty” fame.
The tweet was quickly deleted, but Twitter users already had noticed.
@goldenglobes @HereIsGina That's AMERICA FERRERA, not Gina Rodriguez...

Kind of embarrassing when the @goldenglobes gets one of their announcers names wrong...America Ferrera not Gina Rodriguez. #facterror

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which runs the Golden Globes, issued a statement calling the gaffe “an unfortunate error. Our sincerest apologies to both America and Gina.”
It was otherwise a good morning for Rodriguez, who wasn’t actually present at the announcement. She received a second nomination for her “Jane the Virgin” work and graciously dismissed the flub in an “Entertainment Tonight” interview.
“Who cares?” she said. “America’s lovely. She’s so beautiful and such a fantastic actress. If there’s anybody I want to get mixed up with, it’s her for sure! To me it’s like, whatever. We always make mix-ups in life.”
