SHARE Suit: Developmentally disabled student sexually assaulted at Chicago school

The mother of a developmentally disabled boy is suing the Chicago Board of Education, claiming her son was sexually assaulted by another student who school officials knew had been involved in other sexual abuse allegations.

Kenny Gauthier alleges that on April 2, 2014, her son was a student at the Chicago Vocational Career Academy High School, 2100 E. 87th St., when another student began sexually touching her son, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday in the Cook County Circuit Court. As a result of the incident, her son threw up on the other student, the suit said.

The lawsuit alleges the Chicago Board of Education knew the other student had been involved in other sexual abuse allegations by other students before.

“This suit was filed today, therefore we have yet to review it and cannot comment on pending litigation,” a spokesperson for the board of education said in a statement.

The one-count suit claims negligence and seeks at least $50,000.
