The Peoria native played the last three seasons with the Bears, totaling 38 special teams tackles — the most for any franchise player during that span — as well as one pass breakup and two fumble recoveries. He served as a captain twice last season during the Bears’ season-long game-by-game rotation.
The 27-year-old Northwestern alum is the 10th player the Bears have signed to a one-year deal in the last two weeks, including former Cardinals linebacker Sam Acho, who the team inked earlier Wednesday.
He’s the second cornerback signed in the last five days; the team signed vet Alan Ball on Friday.
The Sox beat the Marlins 2-1 on Friday on Luis Robert Jr.’s walk-off single for their sixth win in the last seven games. Kopech will try to stay on a roll Saturday.

Aaron Gordon scored 27 points, Jokic added 23 and the Nuggets beat the Heat 108-95 on Friday night to take a 3-1 series lead.
Jimenez was not in the Sox’ lineup Friday after exiting the second game of the doubleheader Thursday in New York with a lower left leg injury.
