A 1-year-old Cicero boy died Thursday evening of child abuse, according to an autopsy Friday that ruled his death a homicide.

Edwin O’Reilly, who lived in the 1600 block of South 49th Court in the western suburb, was pronounced dead at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn at 6:38 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Friday found he died of multiple blunt force injuries from child abuse, and ruled his death a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect against Edwin’s mother, and allegations of abuse against the mother’s boyfriend, according to spokeswoman Veronica Resa. The department has had prior contact with the family, but would not elaborate.

A sibling has been taken into DCFS protective custody, Resa said.

Cicero spokesman Ray Hanania said the incident was under investigation.
