DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR

In the morning, the President will host Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi at the White House. The President will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Renzi in the Oval Office. The Vice President will also attend. Afterward, the President will hold a press conference with Prime Minister Renzi in the East Room. There will be a pool spray at the top of the bilateral meeting, and the press conference is open press. Italy is a valued NATO ally and partner on a broad range of global challenges. During their meeting, the President and Prime Minister Renzi will discuss support for Ukraine and continued U.S.-EU unity on pressuring Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine to adhere to the Minsk agreements; the situation in Libya; and the need for the international community to continue efforts to counter ISIL and other extremists throughout the Middle East. They will also exchange views on economic developments in Europe, support for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, climate change and energy security, and other issues of mutual interest.
In the afternoon, the President will hold a working lunch with Prime Minister Renzi in the Cabinet Room. This working lunch is closed press.
Later in the afternoon, the President and First Lady will host a poetry reading featuring poet laureate Elizabeth Alexander in celebration of National Poetry Month. This event in the State Dining Room is open to pre-credentialed media.
