Man charged with fatal stabbing inside Humboldt Park restaurant

A West Side man was ordered held on a $1 million bond Sunday after being charged with fatally stabbing a restaurant owner inside his Humboldt Park neighborhood establishment.

Anastacio Gonzales, 51, faces counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery for the attack that happened about 1 a.m. Saturday at El Taco Naco, 2640 W. Chicago Ave., police said.

Gonzales got into an argument with 50-year-old Hermenegildo Vilchis and stabbed him in the chest, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Vilchis, of the 3800 block of West Diversey, was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:22 a.m., authorities said.

Public records show Vilchis owned El Taco Naco.

Police did not release details on the armed robbery charge against Gonzales, who lives in the 2600 block of West Rice.

On Sunday, a Cook County Judge ordered Gonzales held on a $1 million bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
