A 42-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash with a semi early Tuesday in Kankakee County.

Andrew Wayne Mueller was driving the wrong way southbound on Route 1/17 near the 500 North block in Momence at 4:44 a.m. when he crashed his 2011 Chevrolet head-on into a semi tractor, according to Illinois State Police.

Mueller, of Alton, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Alton is about 21 miles north of St. Louis.

The driver of the semi, a 50-year-old Berwyn man, was injured and taken to Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, police said.

The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
