A driver was cited after a crash involving a school bus that injured two children Friday morning in north suburban Vernon Hills.
The crash happened about 8 a.m. near Camden Place and Evergreen Drive, according to a statement from the Countryside Fire Protection District. Four children were on the bus at the time.
The bus was headed southbound through the intersection when a car coming from the east and turning northbound struck the back of the bus, police said. The car’s driver, a male Vernon Hills resident, was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Two of the children were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with minor injuries, fire officials said. The other two continued to school on another bus.
There was minor damage to the rear of the bus after the crash, along with minor damage to the other vehicle, officials said. No other injuries were reported.
Vernon Hills police and representatives from District 73 also assisted at the scene of the crash.
