Elgin man gets 12 years for sexually assaulting child

A northwest suburban man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child he knew.

Associate Judge Clint Hull handed down the sentence late Thursday for 62-year-old Thomas E. White, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

White, of the 600 block of East Chicago Street in Elgin, pleaded guilty March 26 to criminal sexual assault, a class 1 felony, the state’s attorney’s office said.

According to prosecutors, White had sexual contact with a victim under 18 years old on June 7, 2014. He knew the victim.

He was eligible for an extended prison term because of a prior felony conviction in 2006 for delivery of a controlled substance, the state’s attorney’s office said.

White will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections, prosecutors said. He was given credit for 340 days served in the Kane County Jail.

In addition to the prison term, White is required to register for life as a sex offender, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
