Two men were shot and critically injured inside a Humboldt Park neighborhood apartment building on the West Side early Saturday.

The men, ages 20 and 21, were on the second-floor about 12:15 a.m. in the 900 block of North Monticello when a gunman inside the room opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The younger man was shot in the neck and arm, and the older man was shot in the back and chest, Gaines said. They were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Police said the victims have documented gang ties.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
