Designer purses were stolen from a luxury consignment store in the North Side Lincoln Park neighborhood Wednesday afternoon by male suspects dressed as women.
A few minutes before 4 p.m., three males—two dressed as women—walked into eDrop-Off at 2117 N. Halsted,grabbed four designer pursesand ran off.
The store is equipped with a buzzer entrance, store owner Corri McFadden said. One of her employees checked and thought the person was a client, and buzzed them in. The other two suspects hid around the corner, then followed inside.
“It all happened in about 37 seconds,” McFadden said. “I shot out of my office like a cannon.”
She chased the suspects for four blocks in high heels to see if they got into a getaway car and to get the license plate number.
Her staff called 911, but was redirected to call 311 instead because the suspects were no longer at the scene and no one was hurt, she said. It was about 30 minutes before an officer showed up.
“My problem is, why am I begging? If I say I need help, send me help,” McFadden said.
Four bags — two Louis Vuittons, a Celine and a Givenchy — were taken in the robbery. Their combined value is estimated at nearly $6,000, according to McFadden.
No injuries were reported.
McFadden said the same suspects came into her store on May 14, and she told them to get out. She says they have been casing her store since then.
“There is rising crime everywhere and it’s happening in broad daylight,” she said.
“I’m making a cry to Rahm that we need more officers, we need help, and we need to be heard,”she added.
