A nonprofit group devoted to advancing the understanding of physics has honored Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia as a historic site.

The American Physical Society gave the recognition this week to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermilab for its “pivotal contributions to high-energy physics.”

The lab’s discoveries include the bottom and top quarks and the tau neutrino, an elusive subatomic particle that was thought to be the last missing piece in the architecture of matter.
