A teenage boy was fatally shot and killed about a half-mile from his northwest Indiana home Monday night.
Officers discovered Rashaud Lewis lying in the grass with a gunshot wound in the 2300 block of Harrison Street in Gary, according to Gary Police Sgt. Thomas Decanter.
Lewis lived in the 1000 block of West 22nd Avenue, about a half-mile from the shooting, according to the Lake County (Ind.) coroner’s office.
He was taken to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus, where he was pronounced dead at 5:21 p.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office. Officials ruled his death a homicide.
No one was in custody as of Tuesday morning, Decanter said. The Lake Country Metro Homicide Unit is investigating.
