A west suburban woman is facing several charges after she allegedly brandished a gun and yelled racial slurs at three teenagers Monday night in unincorporated DuPage County.
Karen Komar, 49, was charged with three felony counts of committing a hate crime, and three misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault, according to a statement from the DuPage County sheriff’s office.
About 8:15 p.m., three juveniles were walking down Webster Avenue in unincorporated Roselle when they were confronted by a male who photographed them and accused them of illegal activity, police said.
During the confrontation, Komar came out of her home in the 25w500 block of Webster armed with what appeared to be a rifle and screamed racial slurs at the juveniles, police said.
Police later found the rifle was actually a pellet gun.
“We will not tolerate this type of criminal activity; it is unacceptable,” Sheriff John Zaruba said in the statement. “We would like to thank the juveniles for coming forward and reporting this incident.”
Komarwas ordered held on a $50,000 bond Tuesday morning, and is next scheduled to appear in court July 20.
