A west suburban man won $2 million from a lottery ticket he bought while running errands for his upcoming wedding, the Illinois Lottery announced Thursday.

Downers Grove resident Chase Knapp, 33, was out shopping for his fiancé and decided to “try his luck” — stopping at three stores to buy lottery tickets, according to a statement from the Illinois Lottery, which didn’t say when he purchased the ticket.

The third store was the charm: He bought the winning 50X The Cash ticket at Villa Park Mobil at 1 East St. Charles Road in Villa Park.

He said he plans to invest some of the money and also use a portion for his wedding this fall.

Villa Park Mobil will receive $20,000, or 1 percent of the prize money.
