A 21-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon, about 24 hours after being shot in northwest Indiana.

Derrick McGuire was shot about 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 1700 block of Wallace Street in Gary, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

McGuire, of the 2200 block of Jennings Street in Gary, was transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 3:23 p.m. Wednesday, the medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy Friday found he died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Gary police did not immediately provide further details

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
