Observations from Day 2 of Bears training camp on Friday in Bourbonnais:
Fight !!!!!!
The pads weren’t on yet, but the intensity definitely spiked Friday at Olivet Nazarene University.
Guard Kyle Long took exception to some rough play from defensive tackle Jarvis Jenkins, who had held up running back Jacquizz Rodgers.
Long shoved Jenkins, who turned and threw a punch.
The fight was quickly broken up by teammates unlike last year’s big fight between tight end Martellus Bennett and cornerback Kyle Fuller when receiver Brandon Marshall scolded Bennett.
“You try to discourage it, [but] I’m sure this won’t be the last one, I can pretty much guarantee that,” coach John Fox said. “It’s a combative game played by combative people and you just do you best to keep our guys healthy.”
Practice highlights
The Bears still were in shorts, but Friday’s practice featured more big plays for fans to cheer about.
** Veteran receiver Eddie Royal made the best catch of camp so far, leaping over cornerback Tim Jennings for a long pass from quarterback Jay Cutler down the right sideline.
“I just went up and got the ball,” Royal said. “I don’t know how high I was, [but] a couple of the guys said I was pretty high up there.”
** Third-year receiver Marquess Wilson is having another strong start to training camp, making a highlight-reel grab for the second day in a row.
This time, Wilson hauled in a near-interception down the sideline with veteran safety Antrel Rolle in the area.
** Cutler made plenty of fans laugh during a drill where position coach Dowell Loggains was tossing beanbags at the quarterbacks. Cutler caught one and threw it back at his coach.
