At this time of year, the Cubs need everyone to remain healthy as they hunt for a playoff spot and a chance to play in October.

When rookie third baseman Kris Bryant fouled a ball off his foot in the fifth inning for the second consecutive game, manager Joe Maddon pulled him for precautionary reasons. The Cubs were winning 7-0 at the time.

With 43 games left, the Cubs need Bryant in the lineup in order to catch the St. Louis Cardinals for the division title or maintain their four-game lead in the second wild card spot. There weren’t many reasons for Bryant to stay in a game when the Cubs are winning by seven runs after the sixth.

There’s no indication if Bryant will be in the lineup for game two against the Atlanta Braves on Friday afternoon.
