White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu and outfielder Adam Eaton were named the American League players of the week on Monday.
Abreu batted .400 (10-for-25) with three doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored, a .500 on-base percentage and .880 slugging percentage to earn his second career weekly honor. He’s also got an active 13-game hitting streak.
Eaton hit .517 (15-29) with three doubles, a triple, home run, four RBI, 10 runs scored and three stolen bases for his first career weekly honor. He led the AL in average, on-base percentage (.600) and runs scored.
“The past week I got on and he hit me in,” Eaton said. “Hopefully we can continue that. That was kind of the goal coming into spring training and coming into the season, hopefully to score a lot of runs. I have to get on for him and he does what he does. Last week it all came together and it was both nice to get awards for it.”
They are the first White Sox teammates to share the weekly award.
“I am very happy for the award and for the moment we are experiencing right now,” Abreu said through a translator. “The award is something that doesn’t mean a lot if we’re not in the race we’re in now.”
