A 58-year-old southwest suburban man died early Saturday of injuries suffered in a traffic crash nearly two months ago in Crestwood.

The crash happened at 2:43 p.m. on July 1 near the intersection of 135th Street and West Circle Drive, according to Crestwood police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Richard Johnson was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra southbound on West Circle Drive, and stopped briefly at a stop sign before pulling into traffic in front of a 2002 Ford Windstar that was westbound on 135th Street, according to Crestwood police Det. Chris Soderlund.

The Ford had the right-of-way and did not have time to stop, he said.

Johnson, of the 5900 block of 134th Court in Crestwood, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after the crash. He was transferred to a rehabilitation center, but was eventually taken back to Christ, where he died at 6:58 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.

An autopsy Saturday found he died of multiple injuries from the crash and his dead was ruled an accident.

No citations or charges were issued in connection with the crash, Soderlund said.
