Cubs loss still gets them closer to the postseason

Most Cubs fans didn’t stay up late enough to hear the good news, but even with their loss Wednesday they crept closer to the postseason.

The Giants lost late Wednesday night, bringing the Cubs magic number to just two games. With that in mind, here are the best two related things in Cubs history.

Best Cubs player to ever wear No. 2

It’s a tie between two of the best managers in Cubs history. Although, Cubs fans will have to go into the way-back machine for both of them.

Leo Durocher (1966-71), Gabby Hartnett (1937-40)

Of course, for the younger crowd, the most memorable player to wear No. 2 was Ryan Theriot. A member of the Cubs for their playoff appearances in 2007 and 2008.

Cubs player with the most doubles

Bill Herman has the Cubs record for most doubles in a single season. He hit 57 doubles in both 1935 and 1936.

Cap Anson still holds the Cubs record for most career doubles, he hit 529 during his time with the Cubs.

Most career multi-home run games

Sammy Sosa has not only had the most multi-home run games for the Cubs, but has the third most in the history of the game. Not a huge surprise, but one of the only records to be held by a player in recent history.
