SEEN ON THE SCENE: Since unemployed gridiron star Michael Sam has some extra time on his hands, he’s apparently been around town hanging out with the cast of “Empire,” including Terrence Howard, Jussie Smollett and Gabourey Sidibe. But don’t jump to conclusions about the openly gay Sam and Smollett, despite Sam posting numerous Instagram shots of the two spending time together. As TMZ reported, it seems the two guys are just pals — at least at this point. … The super popular Chance the Rapper dropped by iO Theatre this week to catch the “3Peat” improv show. He loved it so much he said he plans to return this coming week to get another “3peat” fix. … Recent sightings at RPM Steak have included TV mogul Dick Wolf (“Law & Order,” “Chicago PD,” “Chicago Fire”), the Bulls’ Jimmy Butler and (separately) Derrick Rose, rapper MC Lyte dining with BET president Louis Carr, the Cubs’ Dexter Fowler, “Empire” actress Grace Gealey, the 76ers’ Jahlil Okafor, Yuri Sardarov of “Chicago Fire,” the Hawks’ Jonathan Toews, the Bulls’ Nikola Mirotic, Cubs pitcher Jon Lester and the Kansas City Royals’ Omar Infante. … Over at RPM Italian, fans spotted the Hawks’ Corey Tropp, Brent Seabook and Ryan Garbutt, plus fitness celeb Jillian Michaels — who also showed up at Studio Paris, filming at both eateries for her upcoming E! show, “Just Jillian.” … The Cubs’ Tommy La Stella enjoyed a birthday celebration for his brother at Chicago Cut Steakhouse, joined by a bunch of buddies, while (separately) the Hawks’ Marko Dano, Artem Anisimov and Marian Hossa were also spied dining at the popular riverfront steakery. … The Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Mark Melancon slipped into Harry Caray’s in River North — and didn’t miss the chance to pose for a photo next to the iconic Harry statue near the entrance.
