Seven charged with murder of teen brothers found shot to death in Hobart

Seven people have been charged in connection with the murders of two teenage brothers who were found shot to death in a wooded area of northwest Indiana in July.

Antonio D. Lackey, 16; and Arreon T. Lackey, 18, were found shot to death in the 7000 block of Grand Avenue in Hobart, Ind., about 4:50 p.m. July 17, according to Hobart police and the Lake County coroner’s office. They lived in the 4400 block of Ryan Court in Gary, Ind.

Seven suspects have been charged with murder, murder in perpetration of kidnapping, and kidnapping in connection with the deaths, Hobart police announced Wednesday morning.

Several authorities, including Hobart police, Merrillville police, the Northwest Indiana Regional SWAT Team and Indiana State Police, executed a search warrant in the 700 block of North Henry Street in Gary about 5 a.m. Tuesday.

David Johnson III, 62; David Johnson IV, 37; and David Johnson V, 19, all of Gary, were arrested at the home and are being held without bond in the Lake County Jail, police said.

Three other suspects–Aarion Greenwood, 17, David Johnson IV’s son; Jen Woods, 33, David Johnson IV’s wife, who is also known as Jeri McCoy; and Kiontay Cason, 21, all of Gary–are not in custody as of Wednesday morning, police said.

The seventh suspect, 26-year-old Michelle Hughes, Aarion Greenwood’s girlfriend, was arrested July 2 on an unrelated charge and has been in custody at the Lake County Jail, police said. She was served with the murder warrant Tuesday and will remain at the jail without bond.

The brothers were reported missing to the Merrillville Police Department by their mother a few days before they were found, police said at the time.

Police were “actively investigating their whereabouts at the time their bodies were discovered,” police said. They were listed as missing in the National Crime Information Center law enforcement database.

Hobart police will release more information at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
