On paper, it was two of the most historic football programs in the country meeting at the start of the season.
In reality, it was an absolute show of dominance.
Notre Dame welcomed Texas into South Bend Saturday night, with the Irish winning 38-3. Notre Dame had complete control wire to wire.
A Malik Zaire pass to Will Fuller for a touchdown and a Josh Adams Touchdown run helped the Irish take a 17-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was much of the same. After a Texas field goal started the third quarter, Notre Dame reeled off three straight touchdowns.

While Texas wasn’t expected to compete for much this season, the throttling Saturday night was still a surprise. The Fighting Irish offense and defense clicked in just about every aspect of the game.
Notre Dame will be favored once again next week on the road against a Virginia team that lost by double digits to UCLA Saturday. Following the Virginia game, Notre Dame’s schedule takes a noticeable step up in class against Georgia Tech.
