Last week, Packers coach Mike McCarthy made headlines at the team’s annual luncheon for fans when he said: “We will proudly stand as the 95th team in the history of the Green Bay Packers when we kick Chicago’s ass!”

Green Bay, of course, is a big favorite for Sunday’s matchup against the Bears at Soldier Field. The Packers, who are widely considered Super Bowl contenders, blew out the Bears in their last meeting – a 55-14 thumping on Nov. 9 at Lambeau Field.

“Well I looked at the tape. They should be confident,” coach John Fox said Monday to garner some laughs at Halas Hall.

Guard Kyle Long also saw McCarthy’s comments, which spread across social media.

“ I mean, a coach is supposed to try and instill confidence in his team,” Long said. “I get that.”

McCarthy told Green Bay media members on Monday that he didn’t regret possibly providing the Bears with bulletin-board material.

“To me, it’s the reality of the rivalry,” he said. “We’re not going down there to play hopscotch.”
