An SUV was hit by a freight train on Metra’s Milwaukee District-North Line tracks Tuesday evening in Northbrook.

Emergency crews responded about 6:45 p.m. to the crash near Lake Cook Road, according to Northbrook police and Metra officials.

No one was inside the vehicle when it was hit, police said.

It took crews about 40 minutes to clear the scene, and trains were back on the move as of 7:30 p.m. with delays of about half an hour, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

Northbrook police are investigating.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
