A man was killed and another person wounded in a shooting Monday morning in northwest Indiana.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 4800 block of Olcott Avenue in East Chciago about 5 a.m., according to East Chicago police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

Thaddeus L. Rodriguez Jr., 25, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. Rodriguez lived in the 500 block of Spruce Street in Hammond.

Another person was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital, police said. Details about their age, gender and condition weren’t immediately available.

Detectives are canvassing the area Monday morning, police said.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
